About corten steel, and why it lasts

Corten is an architectural steel designed to rust. Its copper content means the core doesn't deteriorate, so it lasts for years, and the patina that forms on the surface actually protects the steel beneath and deepens as it ages. Every piece is cut from 3mm NZ corten steel.

Will corten stain my wall or fence?

Corten weathers best when it's repeatedly wet and then allowed to dry, and it takes time outdoors for the rust layer to fully form and seal. While it's settling, a piece can bleed a little rust run-off, mainly where it touches a surface, which can mark porous materials like unsealed concrete or light timber. You can age a piece off the wall first, or rinse the wall or fence after a storm while the patina forms.

Can corten garden art go indoors?

Yes. Lisa and her team pre-rust the front of each piece and leave the back raw, so it won't mark walls indoors. The same design works on a sheltered patio or fence outside.
