Garden wall art suits timber fences, block walls and the spots among planting where a little rustic character works with the setting. Corten in particular sits beautifully against greenery - the warm, rusted patina reads as part of the garden rather than something bolted onto it. Nearly everything here is cut from corten, an architectural weathering steel that's designed to rust once, then seals itself and protects the steel beneath for decades. As the patina forms it can run a little, so it's best placed over soil, bark or lawn rather than directly above pale pavers. Will corten stain my fence or wall?

As it first weathers, corten can leave a little rust runoff, so it's best on timber, dark surfaces or over planting rather than pale concrete or new render. Once the patina settles the running stops. Hanging it with a small stand-off, or weathering the piece off the wall first, avoids marks entirely.

Can I hang it on a wooden fence?

Yes - a timber fence is the classic spot. Most pieces need nothing more than a couple of stainless screws, and the rope-hung designs simply loop over a screw or hook so you can level them by eye.

Is corten okay in a coastal garden?

Yes - corten suits coastal gardens well, and the patina weathers beautifully by the sea. Only in the very harshest, constant salt spray right on the seafront is marine-grade stainless the better pick; for the vast majority of coastal gardens, corten is a great choice.
