Inground statement pieces

Garden sculptures are the larger, inground works - the stake or base sets straight into soil, a bed or gravel, so there's nothing to build, bolt down or pour footings for. A single sculpture works as a focal point where you want the eye to land: at the end of a path, in an open corner of lawn, or rising above a planted bed. Most are cut from corten, an architectural weathering steel that develops a warm, rusted patina outdoors and reads beautifully among greenery. Many can be made in a different size or finish to suit the spot.

Styling your garden

Set a sculpture as the anchor, then layer around it: garden stakes for height through beds and pathways, garden wall art across fences and walls, and smaller garden ornaments for patios and borders. Browse the full garden art collection, or read the guide to large corten garden bird sculptures.

Common questions about garden sculptures

How do the sculptures install?

They're inground - the stake or base pushes straight into soil, a garden bed or gravel, so there's nothing to build or bolt down. Firm the soil around the base and they hold well; for a very tall piece in loose ground, a little compacted metal or a stake support helps.

Are they suitable for a coastal garden?

Yes - every piece is made for New Zealand conditions, including coastal. Corten suits coastal gardens well and its patina weathers beautifully by the sea; only in constant, direct salt spray right on the seafront would stainless or aluminium be the better pick.

Will corten stain the ground or paving nearby?

As it first weathers, corten can leave a little rust runoff, so a sculpture is best set in soil, bark or lawn rather than tight against pale pavers or concrete. Once the patina settles the running stops.

Can I get a sculpture made to size?

Often, yes - many designs can be scaled up for an open garden or made in a different finish. Get in touch with your space and we'll let you know what's possible.
