Sage green has quietly become one of the most-asked-for colours in NZ homes, and it's easy to see why. It's soft, natural and calming, and it sits beautifully against timber, greenery and the muted palettes people are decorating with now. I make a good range of my designs in sage, so here's how to use it.
Sage is a gentle, grey-green that reads as a neutral more than a colour. That's what makes it so easy to live with: it adds warmth and a natural feel without shouting, and it works in almost any room. It pairs especially well with wood, rattan, cream and black.
Inside, sage wall art softens a space and brings a touch of the garden in. It looks lovely in a bedroom, living room or hallway, and a botanical or native bird design in sage feels calm and considered. Against a white or timber wall it sits quietly, and against a darker wall it lifts.
Outdoors, sage is a natural fit, blending with foliage while still standing out enough to be a feature. A sage piece on a fence or in a garden bed looks like it belongs there, rather than fighting the planting around it.
Sage plays nicely with other natural tones. Keep the palette soft around it, with timber, cream and stone, and black as a grounding accent, and let the piece be a quiet focal point. It also works in a group with black or white pieces for a layered, collected look.

Timber, cream, stone and rattan all pair beautifully, with black as a grounding accent. Sage reads like a soft neutral, so it works with most natural palettes.
Yes. Inside it softens a room and brings a garden feel, and outdoors it blends with planting while still standing out as a feature. In a weatherproof finish it lasts outside.
It's ideal. Sage is calm and restful, which makes it a favourite for bedrooms, living rooms and hallways.
Many designs come in sage, and I can make others to order. Get in touch if there's a particular piece you'd like in sage.
