custom metal signs & metal art

Our custom studio is taking a short break.  Thanks to a busy run of orders, custom address signs, house numbers and personalised signs are paused until 30 August so we can every piece the time it deserves.

Ready-made wall art, gifts and garden art are still shipping within 48 hours, Monday-Friday - and if you'd like a custom piece, email your details and ideas as per below and we'll email you the moment we reopen.

Is this the right page for you?

Custom work means starting from nothing.  A size, shape or level of detail that doesn't fit any existing design, designed from your brief.

If you want your family name, house name, street number or a word in steel, that's usually faster and cheaper as one of Lisa's existing designs.  Have a look at personalised signs and name plates, house numbers and address signs or outdoor wall art first.  Those are made to order too, just from a design that already exists.

What Lisa makes

  • Custom metal signs, house names and property names
  • Business, retail and commercial signage in steel and aluminium
  • Bespoke metal wall art and sculpture, indoors and out
  • Garden features and outdoor artwork
  • Larger or recoloured versions of Lisa's existing designs

Many existing pieces can be remade at a different scale or in a different finish, so if you've seen something you like and just want it bigger or in another colour, say so.

How custom work runs

  1. Email Lisa your brief. Rough size, a photo of the space, any inspiration images, and the finish you have in mind if you know it.
  2. Lisa quotes. She'll come back with pricing and talk through what will and won't work at that size and level of detail.
  3. You place the order. Design work starts once that's done.
  4. You approve the design. Nothing is cut until you're happy with it.
  5. Lisa makes and ships it. Currently 20 business days from design approval.

The quote comes first here, which is different to Lisa's ready-made and personalised ranges. Custom pieces vary too much in size and detail to carry a set price.

To get started, email lisa@lisasarah.com with your rough size, a photo of the space, and any images of the look you're after. Lisa replies to every enquiry personally.

Materials, sizes, payment and common questions

What materials do you work with?

3mm corten weathering steel for a natural rusted finish, 3mm aluminium where something lighter is needed, 304 stainless steel, and 316 marine grade stainless for coastal sites. Powder coated finishes in matte black, white and gold, with other colours available depending on the project. Read more about the metals we work with.

What's the largest piece you can make?

Up to 1200mm x 2400mm as standard, which covers most wall and fence installations. Larger sheets can sometimes be sourced, and bigger works can also be made in sections, so ask if your space needs more than that.

What does a custom piece cost?

Pricing comes down to size, the level of detail, and the material. A large simple design is often less than a small intricate one, because most of the cost sits in the cutting time and the file preparation rather than the metal. Lisa works direct without a showroom, so there's no retail margin on top.

How do payments work?

For projects over $1,000, a 50% deposit is payable before design work begins, with the balance due before delivery. For projects under $1,000, payment is made in full when the order is placed.

How long does custom work take?

Currently 20 business days from design approval, plus shipping. Quoting and design happen before that clock starts, so allow a little longer for the whole process. We can't take on urgent custom projects at the moment.

Can you work from my own artwork or file?

Send through whatever you have. A vector file is ideal, but Lisa regularly works from a sketch, a photo or a logo and redraws it for cutting. Fine detail sometimes has to be simplified so the piece holds together in steel, and she'll tell you if that applies before quoting.

Do you make signs for businesses?

Retail, hospitality, office and home business signage are all regular work, along with corporate gifts and pieces for developers. Send the logo or wordmark and the wall dimensions and Lisa will quote it.

Do you work outside Auckland?

Everything is designed and laser cut in Auckland and shipped throughout New Zealand and Australia. Most custom work is arranged by email and photos, so where you are makes no difference to what's possible.
