The huia was one of New Zealand's most legendary native birds - and one of its greatest losses. Last sighted in 1907 in the Tararua Ranges north of Wellington, the huia is now extinct. Its tail feathers were among the most prized taonga in Māori culture, worn as head and neck adornments by men and women of great authority, leadership and mana.
Lisa's huia feather wall art is a quiet tribute to this remarkable bird. Two feathers - 500mm and 235mm - are precision-cut from premium NZ stainless steel, with decorative detail cut through the steel itself so light passes through and the wall shows behind. The effect is delicate and striking in equal measure.
Each piece is hand-tied with natural rope and comes pre-tied as shown, hanging at approximately 1.25m in total length. The rope is fully adjustable - shorten it to suit your wall, or leave it exactly as it arrives.
Finished in Dulux UV-resistant matte black architectural powder coating (front and sides), this piece is rated for both indoor and outdoor use and built to last in New Zealand conditions.
Hang from a hook, wall dot or nail.
