Anniversary years, materials and common questions

Which anniversary is steel, and which is aluminium?

Steel is the traditional 11th wedding anniversary gift and aluminium is the 10th. Both were chosen for the same reason: they hold their shape and they don't give up. Our guide to 11th anniversary gifts goes through the options in more detail.

What if it's not our 10th or 11th?

The traditional list runs paper, cotton, leather, linen and wood through the early years, then bronze at 8, aluminium at 10, steel at 11, silver at 25, ruby at 40 and gold at 50. Most of those aren't things you'd want on a wall. A piece with your date or your name on it suits any year, which is why the est year sign is the one people most often choose for the years that aren't metal.

How long does a personalised piece take?

Twenty business days from design approval, plus shipping. We email you a design proof first and nothing is cut until you've approved it. The ready made pieces here, like the wall hangings and the XO sets, leave us within 48 hours instead.

Can I put a date on it?

Dates, names, initials and short words are all fine. Send us what you'd like it to say when you order and we'll set it out for you to check.

Which finish should I choose?

Corten weathers to a deep rust and suits a garden or an outdoor wall. Marine grade 316 brushed stainless is the one for coastal homes. Powder coated black, white and gold sit well indoors and out. More on choosing the right steel.

Is it suitable as a wedding gift rather than an anniversary one?

A family name sign or an address sign is one of the more useful things a couple gets, particularly if they've just moved in together. If you're buying before the wedding and the surname is changing, order the personalised piece afterwards or send a gift voucher on the day.

Can you send it straight to them?

Put their address in as the delivery address and we'll post it directly. We never include pricing in a parcel, and gift wrapping is free if you leave a note in the checkout comments.
