outdoor wall hook | cross | black

$45 NZD

A minimal cross hook in black steel, designed by Lisa and made in New Zealand.  Made for outdoors, and just as at home in a bathroom or an entryway.

Sold individually, so you can buy exactly as many as your wall needs.  Two sizes: medium at 10cm and large at 12.5cm across the front, both projecting 25mm from the wall.  Also available in matt white.

How many, and which size?

  • One beside a shower, a back door or a bathroom vanity.  The large size carries a bag, a towel or a hand broom on its own.
  • Three along an entry wall for coats, bags and hats.  The set of three in our entryway photo is the large size.
  • Five for a pool wall or a run of fence, where several towels need to dry at once.  The pool towel photo shows medium hooks.

Large reads bolder on a wide wall or a fence.  Medium suits tighter spaces and looks better in a longer row.

Materials, installation and spacing

What are they made from?

High quality stainless steel with a Dulux UV-resistant coating, and a central detail in resin with a UV inhibitor added.  That's what lets them sit in full sun beside a pool without going chalky or rusting at the fixings.

Will they hold a wet beach towel?

A full-sized wet towel is no trouble at all.  For anything heavier, spread the load across two hooks and make sure you've used the right fixing for your wall.

How do I fix them to the wall?

Screws aren't included, because the right one depends on what you're fixing to.  Into timber, use 8 gauge countersunk head wood screws.  Into plasterboard, concrete or block, use wall anchors made for that material and rated for the weight you're hanging.

Anything to watch outdoors?

Don't over-tighten the resin screw. It needs a little room to expand through a hot summer, and forcing it is the one thing that will shorten its life outside.

How far apart should I space a row?

Around 20 to 25cm between centres works on most walls, at roughly shoulder height for adults.  Keep them in a straight line rather than staggered, so the row reads as deliberate. There's more on arranging them in our hook wall guide.

How do I clean them?

A wipe with warm soapy water is all they need.  Near the coast, a rinse with fresh water now and then will keep salt off the finish.

Where are they made?

Designed by Lisa and made in New Zealand, alongside her other wall hooks and wall art, so the black finish matches across the range.
